You are going to notice advertisements in my YouTube videos. I monetized a hundred of them today. I had no choice. I thought that by keeping ads out of my content it would win people's trust. Then I spent the next seven years being falsely accused of stealing every song and every blog I posted. I said we do not need [flashy] advertising. Here it is important to distinguish between ultimate needs and immediate needs. We do not ultimately need flashy advertising, but as long as it's around, it appears to be the only way I can make any money from my work online. As such it is a very urgent and immediate need. The same may be true of money. There may be no ultimate need for money. We could restructure the economy to eliminate it and let people live with dignity. But as long as everything costs money, it is a powerful immediate need. YouTube asked for no information about my address or bank account. How will I get paid for these ads? I guess I'll have to wait and see. I tried to make money from suing TV shows. My lawyer took it all. I tried to open an i-tunes account. They want a credit card. I'm not calling my parents again and asking them to let me use their card. They are hopelessly stuck in the 1940's and do not understand that I want to use it to give them money, not to take their money. I'm a little sad that I had to take this step. It seems rather hopeless, when my songs and blogs are so popular, that I can't make money from them in some more agreeable way. But I'm sorry if you are offended by these new ads. I tried as hard and as long as I could to avoid using them. |
