Love Is for Losers

Love Is for Losers
Love is for losers to spend without gain
So the dead can pass themselves off as alive
So fools can pretend to be wise
So the ugly may appear beautiful

I gave my all for less than nothing
I measure the return in table scraps and insect bites

Love is a wall to set the poet apart
They invaded my heart, seeking reassurance of their superiority
And unsuccessful, destroyed my good works

Love goes to waste in a world of machines
Its uses reduced to fuel for mockery
